Locum Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

We are seeking a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant for a full-time locum position based within mainstream schools across Kingston upon Thames. This role involves delivering therapy programmes to children with communication needs and supporting teaching staff in an educational setting. The position is offered on a term-time only basis with an immediate start available for candidates with relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver speech and language therapy programmes designed by a qualified therapist with a high level of independence.
• Model communication activities and interventions to teaching assistants and school staff within mainstream classrooms.
• Observe children during lessons and gather detailed information regarding their specific communication needs.
• Communicate with parents and caregivers to collect relevant background information to support child development.
• Provide feedback and observations to the supervising Speech and Language Therapist to monitor student progress.
• Support early intervention work and identify when clinical issues require escalation back to the therapist.

What you'll need

• Proven experience working with children who have speech, language, and communication needs.
• Previous experience working within a school setting, ideally as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.
• Demonstrable experience implementing therapy or communication programmes within an educational environment.
• Enhanced DBS clearance is mandatory for this regulated activity within schools.
• Ability to adapt communication styles to support children with varying levels of SEND.
• Confidence to work independently in a school setting once therapy programmes have been established.
• HCPC NOT REQUIRED
• Role suitable for therapy assistant or teaching experience with experience working alongside a speech and language therapist.
