Questions
Recruitment frequently asked questions
How registration, compliance, timesheets and weekly pay actually work at Actionus, plus what employers can expect when they brief a vacancy.
Candidates
Working through Actionus.
- How do I register with Actionus?
- Complete the candidate registration form with your details and CV. A consultant reviews it, confirms the roles and locations you want, and starts your compliance file. You can also apply directly to any advertised vacancy and we will register you from that application.
- What compliance documents will I need?
- Proof of right to work, photo identity, professional registration where required (for example NMC, HCPC, GMC, GPhC or Social Work England), an enhanced DBS for England and Wales, PVG for Scotland, AccessNI for Northern Ireland, Garda Vetting for Ireland at the correct level, two professional references, and evidence of mandatory training. We confirm exactly what is outstanding on your file rather than requesting everything at once.
- How does the online timesheet work?
- Sign in to the candidate portal, open the current week for your assignment, enter your hours and any breaks, and submit. Your approver at the client receives an email link and approves or rejects it. Approved timesheets feed the weekly pay run, and you can see the status of every week in the portal.
- When do I get paid?
- Weekly, against timesheets approved by your manager. If a timesheet is submitted late or rejected, it moves to the following week's run once it is approved.
- What is the difference between locum, temporary, contract and permanent work?
- Locum and temporary work is booked shift by shift or in blocks and paid hourly against timesheets. A contract is a fixed-term engagement with a defined end date. Permanent roles are employed directly by the client on their own terms. Actionus advertises all four, and the contract type is shown on every advert.
- Do I need my own insurance or umbrella company?
- It depends on how you are engaged. Most temporary workers are paid PAYE through Actionus. If an assignment is engaged differently, the payment route and any requirements are agreed with you in writing before you start.
- How much will I be paid for a role?
- The rate is shown on each advert. If a role is listed as TBC or DOE, the rate is agreed with the client at offer stage and we will confirm it with you before you accept.
- Can I refer someone I have worked with?
- Yes. Use the referral form on the site to send us their details, with their permission, and we will contact them directly.
Employers
Hiring through Actionus.
- How do I brief a vacancy?
- Use the post a job form. It asks for the information we need to advertise compliantly and to search accurately: job title, location, contract type, start date, pay, and the essential requirements. A consultant confirms the brief before anything goes live.
- How quickly can you fill a role?
- Urgent cover from an already-compliant worker can be booked the same day. Roles that need fresh DBS, references or occupational health move at the speed of those checks, and we tell you which situation you are in when we take the brief.
- How do you check candidates before they start?
- Right to work, identity, professional registration where applicable, DBS or PVG at the correct level, references and role-specific training evidence. The compliance pack is shared with you before the assignment begins.
- How are hours approved and invoiced?
- Workers submit weekly online timesheets. Your nominated approver receives an email link and approves or rejects each week. Approved hours feed both the pay run and your invoice, so the audit trail is the same on both sides.
- Which sectors do you recruit for?
- Healthcare, social care, life sciences, education, technology, and commercial and support services, across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
- Can a temporary worker become a permanent employee?
- Yes, temporary assignments can convert to permanent on terms agreed at the point of booking.
